Check the link for details. I normally don't do stuff like that but this is important to me no matter how trivial it is in the grand scheme of life and the internet.

And FYI, for us on the East coast this is starting at 8:00PM on Thursday night.

And yes, I'm aware of the irony that everyone posting about the strike is just generating even more traffic on the site. :)

They have every right to do what they're doing. My gripe is with how they're doing it. They're holding up this great new advisory board as if it's going to be "a voice for the people" so to speak but at the same time they are ignoring the opinions of the members of that board - arguably the most important member.

Many people like to make new journals all the time for various reasons. I'm a paying member and have been for years. A couple years ago I made a free account so I could track my weight. I don't use it anymore but it was useful at the time. I couldn't do that today if I wanted to. So I lost some functionality. What have I gained? Ways to flag content as adult? Yay to allowing others to semi-censor what I write.

The problem seems to mainly be that the "owners on high" are operating in sort of a bubble and don't understand their customer base. They keep stepping on their toes when they make changes. Sure, some changes are necessary. Maybe the adult tag thing was required by their lawyers - so tell us that. Don't obfuscate the issue by tiptoeing around the reasons. It shows a lack of respect for the users' intelligence. It also seems very much like a "take it or leave us" mentality which just isn't the social-networking way.

I just made a free account the other day with no problem ...

Maybe it's because I have boobies.

It's more the change in how they're working with their users. It used to be (or at least seem like) that they valued our input. Nowadays, to put it blunt, I feel like my opinion is ignored. As a consumer that doesn't feel right.

it may not feel right but its becoming standard practice everywhere. Your major utilities have been acting like this for years.Companies turning off heat/power when they're not supposed to. Charging late fees that are illgal, harassing customers. Never mind the 'we don't care' mentality of the oil companies. And still, no one has organized a boycott of thier services. you all have your right to protest what you want, but I'd say if you all really cared about making a difference in the world then why not boycott the power company for a week, or not buy gas for a few days. Send a message worth sending. I mean, its LJ, not life or death. Entertainment services, like LJ, are the one thing that really can get away with the 'don't like it, leave it" attitude, because *gasp* you dont NEED it.
just something to think about. I really could care less if LJ disappeared completely.
